MiMiC Simulation for DeltaV Zone 1 and Zone 2 Remote IO

The purpose of this technical note is to describe the options for using MiMiC with DeltaV Zone 1 and Zone 2 Remote IO.

DeltaV systems using DeltaV Zone 2 IO can be tested with MiMiC in one of the following methods. 

MiMiC and the Virtual IO Module can provide direct IO simulation of the DeltaV modules installed on the Zone 2 IO carrier.  The VIM would be installed on a separate 2-wide carrier and power supply connected to the Zone 2 IO Remote IO Scanner module.  MiMiC would provide IO and process simulation for the IO signals on the remote IO rack just as if the IO cards were installed.  This installation is similar in function to local IO simulation of a MD controller IO.

A second option would be to reassign the remote IO assignment DSTs using bulk import/export to local controller IO addresses.  MiMiC would provide IO and process simulation for the IO signals on the re-assigned IO modules just as if the IO cards were present locally.  Care should be taken to re-assign the DSTs back to remote IO upon completion of the testing. 

A third option would be to reassign the DeltaV IO Modules to a DeltaV Simulate workstation and use the DeltaV Simulate OPC SIO Driver.  Because DeltaV Remote IO is classic IO only, no module modification would need to be done to the control modules.  However, there are limitations with conducting a complete SAT with this method.  The limitations of this approach is covered in the DeltaV Driver Comparison Technical Note.

 

DeltaV systems using DeltaV Zone 1 IO can be tested with Option Two or Three above only.  Option One is not available because the Zone 1 IO does not use the DeltaV IO bus used by the MD controller and Zone 2 Remote IO Scanner.
