Modbus TCP/IP VIM Firmware v3.8.8 Release Notes

  • Product Family: DeltaV Virtual IO Module
  • Category: Release Notes
  • SKU: IOD-4101
  • These release notes are for Modbus TCP/IP VIM Firmware v3.8.8.

These release notes are for the ModbusTCP VIM firmware v3.8.8. The previous released firmware version is v3.8.7. The flash procedure is documented in the product manual. This version of the firmware is identical to the released firmware v3.8.7, with functionality enhancements and corrected defects as noted below.

    Mandatory upgrade for

    • Modbus TCP Redundant VIM applications using firmware versions v3.8.7 and RJ11 based VIM-to-VIM communications.
    • Modbus TCP Redundant VIM applications using firmware versions later than v3.8.0

    Recommended upgrade for

    • Modbus TCP/IP VIM with firmware at or prior to v3.6.11 or using v3.7.x in Slave mode.
    • Modbus TCP Redundant VIM applications using firmware versions at or prior to v3.6.11.
    • Modbus TCP Simplex VIM applications.

    New Features

    • None

    Corrections

    • After VIM reboot in Simplex Slave mode applications, all data change requests from the DeltaV Controller were discarded until the VIM was fully online. Unless the DeltaV Controller continued to send writes to the VIM, the datasets remained in their original static values. This defect has been corrected.
    • In Redundant mode, when the field device was configured to use RTU via UDP protocol, the VIM did not properly switchover on loss of communications. This defect has been corrected.
    • In Redundant mode, when using the serial RJ11 cable for VIM-to-VIM inter-communications, the loss of the Active VIM (via power failure) resulted in a very sluggish (approximately 15 second) switchover to the Standby. This was due to the VIM-to-VIM communications timeout/retry taking excessive time. This defect has been corrected.
