This application note discusses Industrial Ethernet integration options for Siemens S7 PLCs with DeltaV.

Siemens S7 PLCs support communication with 3^rd party systems via the Modbus TCP/IP protocol. We have reviewed the documentation for this solution and have concluded that it will work for integration with DeltaV systems using the DeltaV Virtual IO Module, VIM-4201, and the Modbus TCP/IP Driver, IOD-4101.

Siemens Hardware Requirements

• S7 model 300 PLCs use the CP 343-1 module with part number MLFB 6GK7 343-1EX11-0XE0 or newer
• S7 model 400 PLCs use the CP 443-1 with part number MLFB 6GK7 443-1EX11-0XE0 or newer

*Newer hardware versions might be available which contain the functionality of the communication modules mentioned here.

Siemens Software Requirements 

• Software Version required is STEP7 Version 5.1 or higher with the option NCM S7 for Industrial Ethernet.
