Installation Notes for MiMiC on Server-Class Operating Systems
This technical note describes additional steps that may need to be performed when installing MiMiC 3 on a server-class operating system.
Microsoft .Net 2.0 Framework Not Detected During Installation
When installing on an operating system with Microsoft Terminal Services installed, the MiMiC installer may not properly detect the presence of the .Net 2.0 Framework, even though it is in the Add/Remove programs list in the Control Panel.
Affected Systems
This applies only to Server 2003 with Terminal Services already installed and only when performing a full install on a system that does not have MiMiC currently installed. This does not apply when upgrading MiMiC.
Warnings
This workaround should only be applied if the Microsoft .Net 2.0 Framework has already been installed. This will allow MiMiC to install even if the .Net 2.0 Framework is not installed. If this workaround is used and .Net 2.0 is not installed, MiMiC will not function correctly.
Error Message
Below is a screenshot of the error message. The error message reads: "The Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 must be installed prior to installing MiMiC v3, it can be installed from: /Files/dotnetfx/dotnetfx.exe on the MiMiC CD."
In the screenshot below, the user clicked on the "Install" button and immediately received the displayed error message.
Workaround Procedure
- Open a command prompt. (Start -> Run and type "cmd")
- Type the following command: mkdir "%USERPROFILE%\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v2.0.50727"
- Re-run the MiMiC 3 Installer.
