DeltaV Virtual IO Module Network Gateway
DeltaV Industrial Ethernet Drivers
DeltaV Industrial Ethernet Drivers use the Virtual IO Module (VIM or VIM2) to provide native DeltaV IO Interfaces to Industrial Ethernet networks and devices that use the Modbus TCP, Ethernet/IP and FMC722 TCP protocols.
DeltaV Controllers can read and write signals from plant floor devices that use Industrial Ethernet networks such as PLCs, Motor Control Centers, and Weigh Scales.
Key Features of DeltaV Industrial Ethernet Drivers
Seamless Integration with DeltaV
Each VIM or VIM2 (M-Series or S-Series) is seen by the controller as up to 4 Virtual DeltaV Programmable Serial Cards. Commissioned VIMs are auto-sensed by DeltaV auto-sense IO function as DeltaV Programmable Serial Cards. Dataset configuration is done in the DeltaV Explorer in the same manner as a native DeltaV Card. IO signals can be used in DeltaV Control Modules and displayed on DeltaV Operator graphics.
Intuitive Network Setup
The VIMNet Explorer utility makes setup of the Virtual IO Module easy and intuitive. Graphical, drag and drop functionality makes setting up the Industrial Ethernet network quick and easy.

Modular, Flexible Package
The VIM and VIM2 (M-Series or S-Series) mount in the same manner as the respective DeltaV controller. They use a DeltaV 2-wide (M-Series or S-Series) or 4-wide carrier (M-Series only) and Power Supply connect to the DeltaV IO Bus by the carrier side connector.
VIM and VIM2 - Differences and Compatibility
There are three types of VIM's:
1. M-Series VIM's manufactured by Mynah (Grey box);
2. S-Series VIM's manufactured by Emerson;
3. M- and S-Series VIM2's manufactured by Emerson.
Types 1 and 2 are based on the older x5+ CPU architecture. These have a single 10M Ethernet network for field communications and a serial port for VIM/VIM communications in redundant applications. Type 3 is called VIM2, available as both M-Series or S-Series, and is based on the MX or SX CPU architecture, respectively. The VIM2 has two 100M Ethernet networks. One network is used for field communications and the second is for VIM2/VIM2 communications in redundant applications.
All VIM types are functionally identical and backward compatible to a certain degree. The VIM2 (M-Series or S-Series) is designed as a drop-in replacement of the VIM. On replacement with a new VIM or VIM2, user must reload the configuration from the VimNet Explorer. In redundant applications, both VIM modules must be replaced with VIM2’s.
